The story of a second year dental student.

I am currently reading The Notebook, for the second time. I must say people from Omaha have great things to say(Nicholas Sparks was born in the Big O)! I needed a break from the dismal Auschwitz books that I have been reading lately, and this was the perfect fit. I have also been told to read another Sparks book, A Walk to Remember, apparently it can make anyone cry.
I am back in the greater STL area after a brief retreat to Omaha for Maia's wedding. The ceremony was lovely and the reception was a lot of fun. I think that Andrew and I were successful at making a scene though....but I blame the open bar :)
My Dad and I got in a couple of rounds this weekend as well. So now I am excited to golf again. I would love to golf with others...so let me know if you are interested. But since I don't really work, and most people do...I might have to go alone. Which surprisingly is something that I have never done in 13 years. I tried to work up the courage this morning but failed. Maybe tomorrow morning will be different.
Happy Hump Day.

Change

I need a new purpose in my life. I have had too much time alone lately. If you know me well enough you know that I don't particularly like spending time with my lonesome. I have become much better at playing the solo act this summer, but keeping busy is still much preferred. As it currently stands the people I spend the most time with are under the age of three. But for what they lack in conversational ability the make up for in cuteness.
I can forget about this problem for a few days though. I am returning to Omaha tomorrow evening for Maia's wedding. While I'm there my dad and I are going to try to play as much golf as possible. And I have a vegan grill-out planned with some old and dear friends.
All this will no doubt keep my mind off the fact that I will feel lonely again when I return to Alton. But hopefully I can think of a solution to my little dilemma.

Dawson's Creek

Today I enjoyed something that I never thought I would. Recently I have discovered that I am addicted to watching the teen melodrama, Dawson's Creek. I am over that fact. But today Steve, Liz, George and I played Dawson trivia along with the 4th Season DVD.
It was the most relaxing Sunday I have had all summer. And that is saying a lot, as the biggest things I have on my plate is painting the bathroom.
I bet you don't know that Jack football jersey number is 81!

Auschwitz

I quickly finished Auschwitz : A Doctor's Eyewitness Account last week. What can I say about this amazing historical recollection of hell. It is definitely a book that I think everyone should read. Let me know if you want to borrow my copy.
My next read will be
The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945.
I loved this movie with Adrien Brody and a classmate recommended the book to me. I'll let y'all (my new Texas word) how it goes.

In Alton once Again

As I was leaving Texas on Thursday I was ready to come home. And home to me is now defined as the St Louis/Alton area. This should not be a surprise to me, as I have lived here for five years. But I guess I have always felt like I lived here for reasons bigger than me, or for people other than me. But in light of recent events, I have had to make the decision of whether to claim stl for myself or not. And I realized that I really love this city, and I ready to explore more of it. Beyond the 3 mile radius of Wash U, and the highway taking me there from Alton.
I am from Omaha, but I am a citizen of Cardinal Nation!

Back to the Alamo

Current Book:
Auschwitz : A Doctor's Eyewitness Account by Miklos Nyiszli

Hey There,
Sorry about the delay in providing the next installment to this blog. I was unsure if anyone had read it and whether I wanted to continue writing it. But I found out yesterday that Laurie had looked at it, and that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I am leaving Alton/STL to go to San Antonio for the week. I'm going to see my whole family at the same time. Which is a big deal for me know, with my mom living in Germany. But it will be the first time going to Texas after my grandfather died. So going there is sure to bring up some memories, but I hope they are happy ones.
Well today is July officially, and it is first day of my last month of summer vacation ever. I am going to make it something to remember! Besides a few planned trips, I want to have a good time is Stl...before Alton/Dental School swallows me whole again.
Hey, does anyone use a good music downloading program that they would reccommend? I don't mind paying a fee, but the program must be ipod compatible. Let me know.
Peace Out
